Message From Johan, Rebuilding South Africa, Together.

We Are very proud to work for this great company

Dear Business Partners,

As the dust slowly settles on the looting and unrest that has cast such a dark shadow over our country, I would like to send my most sincere sympathy to all those who experienced the very real trauma first-hand. The physical, emotional and financial wellbeing of each and every one of you are our primary concern.

What we need to remember is this: though their actions are going to reverberate for a long time, the rioters won’t be the ones in the driver’s seat going forward. From now on the people taking action, the ones whose deeds will steer our country, are ourselves – the regular South Africans. The ones who came together in a crisis to stand together against those who threatened the safety and freedom of our communities.

As is true with everything we do, we will overcome the new challenges that the unrest, and its aftermath, will unleash. All South Africans have been impacted in the short term; but there are thousands in the medium and longer term who will feel the impact on their ability to earn an income, run a business, employ people – or simply carry on with life as they knew it.

As we count our blessings and shift our focus towards rebuilding hope and driving positive change, Liberty is doing what we can to help those in need. For example, we have partnered with Standard Bank to deliver food parcels to employees in distress, while Group Marketing has set aside funding to provide additional support to those assisting with deliveries. More broadly, we’ve just announced that we are waiving the automatic clause in our Living Lifestyle benefits that indicates that claims resulting from riots and insurrection will not be paid: if any client suffers an injury that results in a valid claim on any of their policy benefits, Liberty will pay the claim.

All our actions remain strictly governed by the current Adjusted Level 4 COVID-19 regulations – and while we hope that the third wave is starting to subside and that our economy will soon regain some traction, we must remain vigilant and continue to adhere to all protocols. I encourage you to make an informed decision about being vaccinated as we work towards herd immunity in South Africa. If you’re in the Joburg area, perhaps take advantage of our vaccination site at the Libridge building, 25 Ameshoff Street, Braamfontein, which we have set up in partnership with Dis-Chem.

Finally, if you didn’t join our flash webinar last week on dealing with the trauma of an event like this, and the economic climate in SA, I encourage you to watch the recording here.

Stay safe.
